Golf is stirring in Greece’s second city – Thessaloniki.  Early in 2008, the Golf Club of Thessaloniki was formed to bring together both experienced and neophyte golfers for regular competition throughout the season. Most players are members of Porto Carras

Golf Club and this is now the venue for strokeplay and stableford competitions each month. 

 

The Golf Club of Thessaloniki was invited on June 14^th & 15^th to play a Ryder Cup format match against the Corfu Golf Club in Corfu and a mixed male and female 14  player team travelled from Thessaloniki to the island for this event. An informal  ‘Northern Greece Challenge Cup’ was on offer and was comfortably won by Corfu.

Nevertheless, this was a most enjoyable event and an excellent launch pad for the new club.

A return match with Corfu is now being planned for late October 2008 at Porto Carras.

 Let us hope that this will lead in coming years to expanded inter-club activity  - especially with our near neighbours in Bulgaria – and maybe even as far away as Turkey and Italy!
